Umno vice‑president and Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the upcoming Johor election will not disrupt the federal unity government, stressing Malaysia has entered a new political era where no single party dominates both state and federal levels.
Unity Government Stands Firm Despite State Elections
He noted Johor remains a BN‑led state while Melaka operates under a mixed coalition, reflecting diverse political realities. Khaled urged the public to accept this shift, emphasizing that ministries must adapt to the current system.
His comments followed Johor MB Onn Hafiz Ghazi’s announcement dissolving the 56‑seat assembly, paving the way for polls ahead of its April 2027 expiry.
