Various factors considered in RON95 subsidy cut for mahakaya

The government is revising income classification to ensure a fairer system by considering various factors, including household net income, instead of just gross income. Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli confirmed that the new classification, aimed at improving fairness, is in progress. He also stated that targeted subsidies for RON95 petrol will be implemented in mid-2025, with the top 15% of earners (T15) paying market prices. Syed Saddiq, meanwhile, questioned the government’s RM8 billion estimate for T15, stressing the need for transparency in fuel subsidy implementation to ensure the benefits reach those who truly need them.
