Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated that there are no current restrictions preventing controversial preacher Dr. Zakir Naik from giving public speeches in Malaysia. While a temporary ban was imposed in 2019, it is no longer in effect. Responding to a question in the Dewan Rakyat, Saifuddin confirmed that the government has not placed any limitations on Naik’s speeches. Last month, Naik reportedly spoke at the Perlis International Sunnah Convention 2025, urging Malaysian Muslims to intensify efforts to spread Islam and claiming they were not fully utilizing laws permitting proselytization.
