New: This is why Zahid will not call off BNPN collab

1 min read

KUALA LUMPUR, July 27 – Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi insisted that cooperation with Perikatan Nasional (PN) in Negeri Sembilan remains intact despite criticism of PN election director Sanusi Md Nor. Zahid said Sanusi’s remarks were not grounds to end the alliance, but stressed the Kedah Menteri Besar must respect Malaysia’s multiracial society and avoid sensitive issues of race, religion, and royalty during campaigning.

His comments came after MIC president SA Vigneswaran urged BN to contest solo, citing PN leaders’ racial remarks as damaging to BN’s multiracial appeal. Sanusi recently claimed Malays only have “Tanah Melayu” while Chinese and Indians have their own countries, a statement he later said was misinterpreted. DAP and UMNO have faced friction since joining the Unity Government under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang also drawing criticism for calling non-Malays “pendatang.”
