Three Arrested in Johor for Crypto Mining Electricity Theft

JOHOR BAHRU, July 24, 2026 – Police have arrested three men for allegedly stealing electricity to power a cryptocurrency mining operation across four premises in Johor. Johor police chief Ab Rahaman Arsad said the suspects, aged 26 to 46, included a manager and two technicians. They were arrested on July 22 and 23 in Johor Bahru, Iskandar Puteri, and Kulai.

Investigations revealed the syndicate had been operating for about a month, mining cryptocurrency worth between RM80,000 and RM100,000. The group bypassed Tenaga Nasional Berhad meters by directly tapping electricity sources, avoiding bills. Police seized 71 mining machines, computers, laptops, routers, monitors, mobile phones, padlocks, keys, and two vehicles during the raids. Each suspect reportedly earned about RM5,000 monthly from the activities. The suspects are being remanded until July 26, with the case investigated under electricity theft and criminal provisions.
