MCA secretary-general Chong Sin Woon has urged the government to issue clear and transparent guidelines for vernacular schools, especially Chinese primary and national-type secondary schools, to rent their halls for community events. He said such rentals, often for weddings or association meetings, are vital sources of income for schools struggling with maintenance and funding.

Chong stressed that all proceeds go back into improving education facilities. Meanwhile, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the Cabinet decided existing Education Ministry rules, including those prohibiting alcohol at school events, will remain unchanged. The ministry will issue a statement soon.
