KUALA LUMPUR, Jun 11, 2026 — The Alor Setar High Court upheld a two-year good behaviour bond for a 19-year-old involved in a gang rape case of a 12-year-old girl at a budget hotel five years ago. Judge Dr John Lee Kien How @ Mohammad Johan Lee rejected the prosecution’s appeal for a harsher sentence, noting the juvenile’s passive role and absence of physical penetration.

The offender, then 14, was a first-time offender and an excellent SPM student. The court emphasized rehabilitation under the Child Act 2001, ruling the bond lawful and appropriate despite prosecution concerns over leniency.
