All drivers and passengers of express and tour buses in Malaysia must wear seat belts

1 min read

Starting July 1, 2025, all drivers and passengers of express and tour buses in Malaysia must wear seat belts, as mandated by the Road Transport Department (JPJ). This rule applies to buses manufactured after January 2020, while older buses will have a grace period to install seat belts. Drivers must ensure passengers comply before departure, with a RM300 fine for non-compliance. Drivers and bus operators may also be fined if they fail to enforce the rule. If passengers ignore reminders to wear seat belts, only they will be fined, with CCTV footage used to verify enforcement efforts.
