Hundreds rallied at the “Himpunan Melayu Berdaulat” in Kuala Lumpur to protest the proposed Urban Renewal Act (URA), voicing concerns over Malay and Muslim interests. Starting at 2.30pm, participants gathered at Masjid Jamek Kuala Lumpur, Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru, Jalan Raja Laut, and Kelab Sultan Sulaiman, marching to Sogo. Dressed in white, they carried banners opposing the URA, fearing it threatens Malay demographics. The peaceful rally, monitored by police and PAS’ Unit Amal, saw activist Syed Hasan urge PM Anwar Ibrahim to meet NGOs for clarity on the bill, which aims to redevelop old urban housing but faces opposition for potentially marginalizing low-income communities.
