SEPANG – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has uncovered licensed e‑hailing drivers at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminals 1 and 2 bypassing booking apps and charging tourists exorbitant fares during the Ops Ulat crackdown. JPJ director‑general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said drivers loitered in arrival halls, targeting foreigners unfamiliar with local transport. While a taxi ride to Kuala Lumpur should cost RM65–RM80, tourists were forced to pay up to RM800. One Chinese tourist was charged RM836 after initially agreeing to RM60.

The operation, conducted from June 12–26 with PDRM and MAHB, involved undercover personnel and decoys. JPJ inspected 59 vehicles and took action against 54, issuing 76 notices under the Land Public Transport Act 2010. Offenders included private cars, e‑hailing vehicles, taxis, and company vehicles. JPJ also found Bangladeshi nationals touting fellow citizens. Aedy Fadly stressed continued enforcement at KLIA and other airports to protect Malaysia’s tourism image.
