A swift response by Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 security thwarted another wildlife smuggling attempt, rescuing six live gibbons hidden in luggage. Aviation Security officers detected suspicious baggage during routine screening and coordinated with PERHILITAN and airline partners to intercept the passenger before departure.

KLIA stressed that gibbons belong in the wild, not confined to suitcases, and urged public vigilance against the exotic pet trade. The incident follows a March arrest of a Malaysian woman caught smuggling four siamang gibbons worth RM120,000, underscoring the airport’s role in combating illegal wildlife trafficking.
