Starting January 2026, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers with a body mass index (BMI) over 27 will be barred from promotions, said Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.

The policy, aimed at tackling obesity in the civil service, gives officers six months to reach an ideal weight. Azam said this aligns with similar enforcement by the Royal Malaysian Police and is meant to ensure officers are physically fit to serve effectively.
Quarterly health screenings at government hospitals will also be mandatory. Azam emphasized that excessive weight can lead to serious health issues and hinder job performance in public service.
