President Donald Trump announced that starting Friday, Washington will send letters to countries detailing specific tariff rates on imports to the U.S., moving away from earlier plans to negotiate dozens of individual trade deals.
Reciprocal Tariffs: U.S. to Hit Nations With 10–50% Import Duties
Citing the complexity of dealing with over 170 countries, Trump said the U.S. will notify 10 countries at a time, with tariffs ranging from 10% to 50%.
A few nations, like the U.K. and Vietnam, have struck separate agreements. However, most countries—especially those not in talks—face steep tariff hikes, including 36% for Thailand and 50% for Lesotho. The July 9 deadline looms for new rates to take effect.
