Sin Chew Daily, a prominent Chinese newspaper in Malaysia, sparked outrage after publishing a front-page illustration of a jong bearing an incorrect Malaysian flag, missing its crescent moon, during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit. The blunder prompted former Education Minister Maszlee Malik to demand accountability, dismissing the newspaper’s apology for a “technical error” as inadequate.

Maszlee, a PKR leader, insisted that a nearly century-old publication with experienced editors should not err on such a significant national symbol. He called for resignations or legal consequences, arguing that a mere apology fails to address the gravity of the mistake. Sin Chew corrected the digital and print versions.
