PETALING JAYA – Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi has defended Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh’s actions over the upside-down Jalur Gemilang controversy, praising him as patriotic rather than a political gangster. Puad said in a Facebook post that a flag symbolises a nation and flying it upside down, whether intentional or accidental, reflected disrespect. He argued that Akmal’s gathering of 200 youth members outside a Penang hardware shop was justified and non-violent. Akmal, who faces police questioning tonight, has vowed to fight “to the end” if defending the flag means legal consequences.
