The fluctuation of currency value is a contentious issue among Malaysians, with varying perspectives on whether the Ringgit is stronger or weaker at a given time. Recently, some opposition supporters have argued that the Ringgit was more favourable at RM4.45 to US$1, as opposed to the current rate of RM4.28 to US$1.

On Twitter, a netizen posted a tweet about this whole ordeal. She then added that a concerning amount of TikTokers actually believe this false information. Netizens replied stating that some people would need to educate themselves when it comes to simple economics.

Others were mocking these people for having a lack of knowledge on currency value. There were jabs towards them saying that they need a “Pelempang Nasional.” It is a play on words for Perikatan Nasional and “pelempang” means striking someone on the face.
