KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 – Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim inaugurated the four-storey, 12,142 sq ft Masjid Madani yesterday, a mosque capable of hosting 2,900 worshippers. Anwar hailed it as a triumph for its planners, emphasizing his Madani vision. However, lawyer and activist Siti Kasim dismissed it as a “superficial personal victory for the Madani brand,” criticizing Anwar’s self-congratulatory speech. She warned that his government’s handling of the temple relocation crisis in Kuala Lumpur, juxtaposed with mosque-building to appeal to Malays, would backfire. “As a defender of Islam, he’s misjudged,” Siti said, predicting serious electoral repercussions for Anwar’s Madani government in GE16.
