SINGAPORE, 20 May — Gardenia Foods announced it will retrench 141 employees at its Pandan Loop facility as production shifts to Johor Bahru. Operations at the Singapore plant will cease on June 30, with affected workers’ last day also set for that date. Gardenia said the move is part of efforts to enhance efficiency and competitiveness amid global challenges.

Employees were informed during an internal meeting, with the Food, Drinks and Allied Workers Union (FDAWU) present to provide support. The union is assisting with training, job placement, and ensuring fair retrenchment terms under its collective agreement. Gardenia added that eligible staff may be considered for roles within its wider network.
Following the retrenchment, Gardenia will retain 250 employees in Singapore, which remains its headquarters for key functions. FDAWU will also organise on-site jobs and skills training to help affected workers transition smoothly into new opportunities.
