ISTANBUL – Iran has officially begun collecting transit fees from ships passing through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most vital energy supply routes. Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hamidreza Haji Babaei confirmed that the first revenues have been deposited into the central bank.

Lawmaker Alireza Salimi added that fees vary depending on cargo type, volume, and risk level. Reports suggest payments may be required in cryptocurrency or Chinese yuan.
