Lawmaker Alireza Salimi added that fees vary depending on cargo type, volume, and risk level. Reports suggest payments may be required in cryptocurrency or Chinese yuan. The move comes amid heightened tensions following the US-Israel-Iran conflict, which has disrupted shipping and global energy markets. Details on the number of vessels charged remain undisclosed.
