TEHRAN – Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to commercial vessels, warning that any ship approaching will be targeted. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the move was in response to a continuing US naval blockade of Iranian ports.

The decision comes just a day after Iran’s foreign minister temporarily reopened the vital waterway. Reports indicated vessels, including a tanker, were targeted near the strait on Saturday. The IRGC Navy declared no vessel should move from the Persian Gulf or Sea of Oman. A two-week ceasefire remains in effect until April 22.
