A video on Twitter is getting a lot of attention with the hashtag @israelkoyak which Jerusalem Post calls a Hamas-Malaysian project.
An opinion piece in JP says new research on Operation Guardians shows an orchestrated and well-planned effort to target Israeli and Jewish online users.
JP asks is there a Hamas-Malaysia digital front?
It says the evidence shows there very well could be. It also urges Israel to pay attention, as should the social media platforms.
In the video on Twitter, Emily Shrader the author of the JP article seems to say she is exposing Malaysia as a ‘cyber threat’.
“What’s happening with the Malaysians is entirely different from online anti-Semitic trolls,” she says.
“Anti-Israeli groups launched a strategic and coordinated cyber attack in order to suspend and remove accounts of Israelis. They used the hashtag @israelkoyak over half a million times in two weeks.
“During the operation, Malaysian ‘hacktivism’ accounts targeted pro-Israel voices, both public and private.”
She continues by saying this was an organised campaign to spam and harass others online.
The hacks took place using two methods. “First, harassing and spamming their account. Second, removing or blocking their accounts,” she claims.
She even claims the Malaysian and Hamas hackers logged into government, and top officials account. A successful operation, the anti-Israeli lobby would say.
