KUALA LUMPUR – Muhammad Faiq Zafran Mohd Jailani, 24, has been sentenced to four years in prison by the Toyama District Court, Japan, after being charged with three offences. His lawyer, Datuk Noor Svetlana Mohd Noor Nordin, explained that the sentences run concurrently from his arrest date on November 18, 2025, reducing the effective term to three years and nine months.

The family intends to appeal to the High Court, hoping for leniency under Article 25 of Japan’s Penal Code, which allows suspended sentences. Faiq, believed to be a victim of an online fraud syndicate, was charged under provisions similar to Malaysia’s Section 420 and Section 34.
