New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has urged residents to conserve electricity as the city faces extreme heat. He advised setting air conditioners to 78°F (25°C), switching off unused lights and electronics, and unplugging devices to ease strain on the grid.
NYC Mayor’s Directive to Residents
City authorities have implemented the same measures in municipal buildings. The directive comes as power demand peaks during a heatwave affecting over 100 million people across the US.
Europe is also battling record temperatures, with red alerts issued in France, the UK, the Netherlands, and Italy. WHO reports more than 1,300 deaths in Europe last week due to extreme heat.
