Malaysia’s Parliament has begun monitoring the situation involving three elephants from Zoo Taiping & Night Safari — Dara, Amoi, and Kelat — currently placed in Japan. The Parliamentary Select Committee on Environment, Science and Plantation is now reviewing the matter, with plans to conduct an official visit to assess the animals’ condition and management firsthand.

Taiping Municipal Council (MPT) president Mohamed Akmal Dahalan said the visit is part of a broader effort to gather accurate information, particularly on animal welfare and management practices. Authorities aim to ensure transparency and provide the public with verified updates amid growing interest in the issue.
A joint committee between Zoo Taiping and Osaka’s Tennoji Zoo has also been established to oversee ongoing monitoring. Regular reports, audits, and welfare checks are required, although the full agreement remains confidential due to legal constraints. Officials stress that key details have already been shared publicly.
