1 min read

Commuters at Sembawang MRT station were evacuated on April 13 after smoke was seen coming from the undercarriage of a North‑South Line train. Videos showed the platform filled with smoke as passengers covered their noses or filmed the incident. A commuter reported the affected train departed slowly, with subsequent trains also moving at reduced speed.

SMRT Trains president Lam Sheau Kai confirmed the smoke appeared around 8:10pm and preliminary checks suggested a brake remained engaged. Staff assisted passengers to disembark safely as a precaution. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident.
