BAHAU, Aug 1, 2026 — Political parties have been urged to heed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s call for reconciliation once the Negri Sembilan state election concludes. Deputy Prime Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stressed that leaders must continue strengthening the unity government in Putrajaya, regardless of state-level outcomes.
With campaigning ending at 11.59pm on Friday (July 31), Zahid reminded that political contests should not undermine federal cooperation, describing the process as a reflection of Malaysia’s maturing democracy. “The Prime Minister has said that after this, we must reconcile and embrace one another again because in Putrajaya, we are part of the same government,” he said.

Zahid, who is also Barisan Nasional chairman, reaffirmed the coalition’s commitment to supporting Anwar until the end of his term. He emphasized that safeguarding national interests and ensuring political stability after polling day outweigh the election result itself.
