China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi delivered veiled criticism of US President Donald Trump’s foreign policy during a UN Security Council meeting on May 26. Chairing the session on the UN Charter, Wang condemned unilateral military actions and warned against weakening the UN by withholding funding.

His remarks followed Trump’s withdrawal from dozens of UN agencies and the launch of his “Board of Peace” initiative. Wang stressed that the UN’s role must be strengthened, not replaced, as the US faces criticism for owing US$2 billion in dues. Beijing framed itself as a stabilising force while calling for fairer global governance.
