SUNGAI PETANI, June 5 – The High Court has dismissed an appeal by a woman and her three guarantors against a sessions court ruling requiring repayment of RM857,000 in education loans to Mara. The woman received loans in 2011 and 2013 to pursue postgraduate studies at the University of Manchester and University of Cambridge.

The court upheld Mara’s loan terms, which required completion of her PhD within four years. Despite an extension, she failed to finish the programme, breaching the agreement. Mara chairman Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said recovering defaulted loans is vital to ensure funds benefit future students.
